Study on the criteria of educational guidance and obstacles of Choosing major by high school students

The main purpose of this research was to study the relation between different criteria of educational guidance and obstacles which high school students face in choosing major. The method used in this study was descriptive - correlation research. This study was done on a sample of 140 high school students of both sexes in Mianeh using stratified random sampling. The data collected using documents of educational guidance in consultation files of students and questionnaires. Spearmanʹs rank correlation method was used for testing the hypothesis of relation between different criteria of educational guidance. The results indicated that, there are no significant relations between existing criteria of educational guidance and students self — selection strategies. Furthermore, from studentsʹ point of view, the obstacles of choosing major were: local vocational opportunity anxiety for their majors, lack of sufficient information of academic majors, limited enrollment rate in some educational majors in the region, lack of information about vocational needs and perspective in the region and educational guidance manner.
