A Review of the Theories about the Necessity of Establishing a Theocratic Government Inspired by the Prophetʹs Government

The article introduces an analytical study of the theories about the necessity of establishing a theocratic government inspired by the Prophetʹs model of governing. Two views are put forward as to whether or not it is necessary to establish a theocratic government: a negative view and a postive view. Those who adopt the negative view say that there is no need in this period to establish a theocratic government. In other words, it is, as they say, not our duty to set up such government and they maintain that the decision taken by the Prophet to establish a government was not part of the divine message, rather it was due to urgent need and as a response to peopleʹs demand. The supporters of the other view say that the establishing of a government by the Prophet was part of the divine message Of the Prophet and it was not intended for a specific period of time, i.e. when the Prophet was alive. The author advocates the second view and considers establishing a theocratic government as a religious duty which is limited to no specific time, and so, it is incumbent on the Muslims to carry out this duty whenever possible. The authorsʹ advocacy of the second view is based on a through study of th Prophetʹs political lifestyle.
