Aladdin Hassan Kangavi Bahmani succeeded in establishing the Bahmanian Government in 1345. His successors each tried to develop this government in small part, but the golden age of the Bahmanian regime came under the reign of Sultan Mohammad III. After settling internal struggles, Mohammad III invested in spreading his realm. This effort was mostly targeted towards the Hindu lands that neighbored the Bahmanians.
Iranian activity in the Bahmani court, especially Khaja Mahmoud Gavanʹs services as Mohammadʹs prime minister, played a strong role in the development of the Bahmanian regime. The reforms that Khaja Mahmoud led within the Bahmanian government led to the strengthening of its central authority and the weakening of local tribal leaders. These reforms mostly concerned bureaucratic and financial matters, which transformed the Bahmanian bureaucracy and in turn resulted in the removal of Khaja Mahmoud himself. With the assassination of Khaja Mahmoud and Sultan Mohammad, the Bahmanian government started its downfall and its golden age started to dwindle.
During the golden period however, the participation of Iranians such as Khaja Mahmoud, Gholi Ghotb Shah, and Adel Shah in the Bahmanian court prompted the Bahmanians to establish strong cultural, religious, political and commercial ties with Iran. This paper seeks to investigate the development and the quality of these relations.
