The Role of Iranian and Russian Commercial Companies in the Reign of Qajarʹs Economy

The Qajar Iran, due to its weak economic infrastructure and the lack of an industrial economy, virtually had no place in the international economic scene. Its economically advantageous geographic location however, had prompted countries such as Russia to maintain good commercial relations with Iran. The mutual need of Iran and Russia for some of each otherʹs goods induced Russian and Caucasian merchants to enter trade in this field, and motivated the creation of various commercial companies. In this research, the roles of Iranian and Russian commercial companies are investigated based on documents from the Qajar era.
