Britain and the Instigation of Tribal Leaders against Central Government of Iran

With the help of historical documents, Britainʹs tribal policy during the time period between the nationalization of oil industry and the 1952 coup dʹetat is investigated. By creating a network of Iranian correspondents during the Qajar and the Pahlavi eras, and by infiltrating through the tribal leadership circles and recognizing their potential political strength, the British succeeded in pressuring the central government. This happened especially after the nationalization of oil industry, and until the coup of 1953. This paper seeks to analyze these centrifugal policies in that given time period.
