Analyzing and Assessing Technical Efficiency of Fisheries Cooperatives Using Stochastic Frontier Function: A Case Study of Chabahar Region in Iran

One of the sub-sectors of agriculture which can play an effective role in the growth of countryʹs economy is fisheries. The existence of high potentials in the country, increasing growth of population and the urgent need for food proteins, necessitate planning for utilization of the resources in the fisheries sub-sector. Thus, this study examined the problems and relative issues of 16 fisheries cooperatives in Chabahar region in Sistan-and-Baluchestan province during the period of 2006-2007. in addition, the status of these cooperatives were considered with respect to their efficient use of inputs particularly loan. The findings indicated that loan had a positive impact on technical efficiency of cooperatives and capital input can be allocated optimally in combination and transformation to other production inputs in production process.
