A Feasibility Study on Developing Digital Libraries for Supporting Distance Learning Programs of Payame Noor University

This research aims to evaluate and study the facilities of the central library of Payame Noor University in order to develop a digital library which supports distance learning programs at this university. In this research, the central library is considered for developing a digital library and the facilities of the deputy directorate for technology are studied for holding distance education courses in the Payame Noor University. The strengths and weaknesses of these two centers, which are cores of Payame Noor University, are determined and are used as models for other centers of this university. This study employs a survey-descriptive method. Findings show that the human resources, budget, integrated electronic resources and hardware and software facilities of Payame Noor University should reach the standards mentioned in this research in order to develop digital libraries which support distance education. Furthermore, this university does not have proper facilities for holding distance education courses and e-courses (Low bandwidth, not using optical fiber and satellite communication technology etc.). Finally, suggestions are made for developing digital libraries for supporting distance learning programs in Payame Noor University
