A Study of Translatorʹs Style in Translated Narrative Texts: Translation Universals in Persian Translation of Woolfʹs

This paper examines Saleh Hosseiniʹs style as a literary translator in Persianʹs translation of Woolfʹs To the Lighthouse in the light of Bakerʹs universals of translation. First, it reviews the related literature and discusses the belief that translatorʹs style is less important than that of the writer. Second, the paper refers to the stylistic studies of narrative texts along with the different definitions of style. Third, it mentions the stylistics of the translator in the light of the universals of translation as being proposed by Baker: explicitation, simplification, leveling out and normalization. Finally, it is concluded that in Hosseiniʹs translation, normalization is the most frequent universal.
