Jiroft Inscriptions and Origion of the Elamit Writing System

Massive looting in 2000 drew the attention of Iranian archaeologists to the importanct Bronze Age archaeological sites in the region of Jiroft. The preliminary results of six seasons of excavation at the site of Konar Sandal South resulted to the exposure of monumental architecture on the Citadel with a monumental sculpture and domestic and industrial architecture in the lower town of Konar Sandal South, as well as glyptic art, radiocarbon dating in the Bronze Age from 2880 to 2200 BC., and above all a fragment of an inscribed baked brick in the entrance of the Citadel gateway including three tablets with a writing entirely indenpendent from the Sumerian writing in the lower town, but with close affinities to the si-called Elamite B inscriptions from Susa and can be considered as the origin of the Elamite writing.
