Comparison of the Synthesis Methods of Antioxidant A.O.2246 and Introducing the Preferred Method for Scaling up

Use of an antioxidant in a composite propellant formulation is unavoidable. These materials are added to create desirable properties in propellants during storage time. Binder which is an organic material in propellant compositions is exposed change and downfall (oxidation and/or hydrolysis). Therefore, it causes changes in the mechanical properties of the propellant. Use of antioxidants in the propellant formulation prevents such events from taking place. In this paper, properties and applications of A.O.2246 are first introduced and then different methods for synthesis of A.O.2246 are discussed and compared. Finally, by considering the advantages and disadvantages of the methods and their potential to scaling up, the preferred method for preparation of A.O.2246 is explained.
