Research and Citation impact of open access publishing: a literature review

With the advance of information technologies, especially Internet and world wide web in the last decade of 20,h century, publishing of scholarly journals on the Web was possible. This phenomenon, on one hand, provide a possibility for scholars to publish their scholarly works openly on personal websites or institutional and subject repositories to access and read of all users around the world. Phenomenon was known to "Open Access Movement". In this article, we briefly review the history of scientific journals publishing and scholarly communication, then, look at a shot view on citation and using it as a research indicator and finally, review the literature on open access research and citation impact of journals and articles.
