Calibration of Laser Triangulation System Based on Crossed Laser Lines Projection

Recently, three-dimensional scanners are considered as most accurate non-contact measurement tools. The most important methods are applied in this area. This paper has an overview of common methods of calibration modeling systems via laser triangulation scheme as well as designing and implementing the calibration of a very low cost, low simple structure and executable three-dimensional modeling system. The Three-dimensional modeling system "Optical Laser Frame Scanner" includes a camera and three lasers with linear Pattern. One of lasers is vertically and movable and the other two ones are horizontal and fixed. Through the Intersections of two horizontal fixed laser lines above and below with the movable factors which affect the accuracy of these systems are the geometric parameters of the system that used in equations to calculate the three-dimensional coordinates. The Process, in which these values are obtained, is called calibration procedure and several vertical laser line in image space, the position parameters of laser plane in each step of scanning is known. Calibration of this system includes camera calibration, fix planes and movable vertical laser plane calibration. During this process the parameters, required to produce three-dimensional data for the system, will be provided. Results of final assessment scanner showed that the strategy used in the calibration process of this three-dimensional modeling system could achieve the accuracy expected from its designing.
