The aim of this study was to determine the effect of instructional self-talk on performing simple and complex motor skills and its effect on psychological factors such as concentration, confidence, stronger, relaxation of athletes. In this study 42 physical education students (20-25 years old)were selected that all of them had passed Basketball Courses (I and II )the sample was randomly divided in two experimental and control groups, after completed a 15 minute warm-up a pre test without self-talk , then post test with self-talk were done. After that experimental group answered to a questionnaire related to some psychological factors. Statistical analysis was performed using independent t-test, paired samples t- test by SPSS 11/5 in the level of a<0.05. The results showed that instructional self-talk strategy significantly improved performance and its effects were greater in complex skills than simple ones. According to subjectsʹ responses, they used it as an effective strategy to enhance concentration, confidence, strength and relaxation.
