Indexing quality and ranking of XML content objects containing MARC21 and Dublin Core metadata elements by major search engines

The aim of this research was to examine the indexing quality and ranking of XML content objects containing MARC21 and Dublin Core metadata elements by major search engines, and comparing them together in an experimental study. 100 XML content objects in two groups were analyzed: those with MARCXML elements and those with DCXML ones published in two websites ^www.dcmixml.islamicdoc.com & www.marcxml.islamicdoc.com). The websites introduced to the selected search engines, Google and Yahoo. The indexing quality of metadata records embedded in content objects using descriptive statistics, and the difference between indexing and ranking of them using nonparametric mann-whitney U test were examined. Findings show that the visibility of content objects was possible by all their metadata elements. There was no significant difference between the two groupsʹ indexing quality but observed in case of ranking.
