Rabies has economical and hygienic importance because of 100% mortality and communicability between warm blood animals and human, therapeutic costs and animal losses.
According to high prevalence of rabies in North, South and Razavi provinces this study was carried out during 1996-2006. Data were collected from control and prevention centers of rabies and hygiene centers. Analysis was performed by calculating mean, Pearson correlation coefficient and 2test by SPSS software. Spatial maps were drawn by ARCGIS 9.2, SPSS and ENTROPULATION softwares.
During 1996 to 2006 three hundred three cases of animalsʹ affected by rabies were reported. Rabies was found in 12 species of wild and domestic animals that the hughest frequent species were dog 139(45.87%) and cow 69(22.77%). The highest frequency of animal rabies was observed in Sabzevar(62 cases), Mashhad(51 cases) and Torbatejam(32 cases). According to seasonal distribution in spring, summer, fall and winter 27.4%, 22.7%, 26.9% and 23% of cases were observed respectively.
Epidemiological studies of Rabies and spatial modeling by using geographical information system (GIS) are valuable efforts for prediction of disease incidence, control and prevention of disease in region and provide valuable data for rabies campaign administrators.
