Trichomonas gallinae is a protozoan parasite and is observed in the upper digestive tract of pigeons (mouth, throat, esophagus and crop). In spite of wide distribution of this parasite in Iran, done studies about that are very limited. The aim of this survey was detection of Tabriz pigeons contamination rate to trichomonas gallinae. In this study with use of wet and sterile swap sampling rout from surface of mouth, throat and larynx of 100 pigeons (50 male and 50 female) samples were prepared and after carrying the samples to the parasitology labratory, and after preparation slide smears, the samples were studied under the light microscope. Based of results from 100 tested pigeons, 69 cases (69%) were contaminated to trichomonas gallinae and contamination in female pigeons was observed higher than males (76% in females and 62% in males) and too results showed that contamination in group of one year old pigeons was higher than group of upper one year of old and it was seen 74% and 64% respectively. Results showed that Tabriz pigeons infection to trichomonas gallinae is high and this high prevalence can be related to lack of healthy position in place of pigeons culture or the lack of pigeons ownerʹs information from the route of disease transmission and distribution.
