Effect of Intracerebroventricular Injection of Crataegus melanocarpa Ethanolic Extract on fear Behavior in adult MalRat

Fear is biologic response that protects animal from acute danger. Fear and anxiety is important matter in psychological science. Different mechanism and drug were introduced for their control and therapy. Herbal drugs have mild effects on fear and more sedative than chemical drugs. In this research the effect of intracerebroventricular (I. C. V) microinjection of Crataegus melanocarpa on fear were studied. Animals were divided into 3 groups: saline, Pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) 20mg/kg as positive control (i.p) and three groups that received 500, 1000, 2000,4000,8000 Mg/rat alcoholic extraction of C.melanocarpa (ICV) respectively. A cannul was placed in to lateral ventricle by Stereotaxic apparatus. After recovery period, Elevate plus maze were used for evaluation of the fear. Percent open arm entries (%OAE) and Percent of open arm time (%OAT) was evaluated. Our result showed that 2000,4000,8000 Mg/rat doses increased %OAE and %OAT significantly (P<0.05). We concluded that alcoholic extraction of C.melanocarpa effective drug in fear reduction. It probably acts on GABAergic system and cAMP levels. By this mechanism decreased fear. Vet. J. of Islamic.
