Ecological study of Hydatydosis in human, sheep and goat in Iran

Because of the importance of Hydatid cyst prevalent-in our country, Iran and its zoonotical aspects, a study of j correlation of infection rate in man and animal (sheep and goat) population was very necessary. In this way an : ecological study has been performed in 1996-2000. Prevalence rate of Hydatid cyst in animal and human has been calculated based on year and variables such as age, sex occupation, infected organ, affected animals, under study provinces and rural and urban infected person have been considered based on existing records. This study showed that Gilan and Mazandaran provinces with moderate and humid cli mate possessing the highest rate of animal hydatid cyst in comparison with the other provinces (the rate of sheep and goat hydatid cyst of liver and lung in Gilan province respectively were 8.7% and 12.0%). The provinces such as Kerman and Yazd that have warm and dry desert climate possessing the lowest prevalence of animal hydatid cyst disease in compression with the other provinces (in Kerman 1.8% and 1.5% for liver and lung infection). Prevalence rate of human hydatid cyst in Semnan province has the highest rate in the country (2.95 per 100000) and Hormozgan province which had not anyʹ case report during 1996-2000. The prevalence of sheep and goat lung infection has been increased all around the country (from 3.98% to 4.3%). But prevalence rate of disease in human has been decreased during 1996-2000 (from 98 per 100000 to 6.7 per 100000). Vet,J.of Islamic. Azad.Univ., Garmsar Branch. 4,1:13-16,2008.
