Study on the effects of physalis alkekengi fruitʹs alcoholic extract on the rate of wistar rat abortion and anomaly at the 4th day of pregnancy

In this study the effect of Physalis alkekengi fruitʹs alcoholic extract on ratʹs fetuses and placentas and also measuring the rate of its effect on the creation of anomaly and abortion at the 4th day of pregnancy had been studied. Fifteen female rats as random devided to 3 groups control experimental 1 and experimental 2 group that each one includes 5 rats, and received 8g/kg physalis alkekengi fruits alcoholic extract, respectively. All fetuses extracted from uterus at the 15 th day of pregnancy to study according to morphologic and histologic. Analysis demonstrated that Physalis alkekengi fruitʹs alcoholic extract injection intraperitoneal at the 4th day of pregnant rat caused significand reduction of fetuses weight in experimental 2 and 1 groups and reduction crown rump length in experimental 2 group in comparison with control group and reduction diameter and weight and volume in experimental 2 group in comparison with control group. Studies on liver and heart tissue indicated that the number of liver megakaryocytes and heart non-differentiation red blood cells in experimental 2 group and also fetuses liver in both experimental 1 and 2 groups have increased significantly in comparison with control group. Moreover study on fetuses vertebral column in experimental 1 and 2 group in comparison with control group shows a significant increase in vertebral column curvature. Also morphometry studies showed that 32.14 percent out of 56 fetuses in experimental 1 group had abnormal vertebral column curvature and 11.32 percent out of 53 fetuses in experimental 2 group were abortive and 41.50 percent had abnormal vertebral column curvature and 47.16 percent were healthy. All of 65 fetuses in control group were healthy. According to physiological effects of physalins like physalin F which are reported in various articles alcoholic extract teratogenic effects might be related to physalin F.
