Studying the Pattern of Lameness Incidence according to Season, Lactation period, Production in an industrial Cattle farm

After mastitis and reproduction disorders, Lameness is the third prevalent factor of great economic losses of industrial farms. Incidence of lameness in dairy herds is influenced by several factors such as management, environment and inherent agents. The lameness epidemiologic path understanding can be help us to reduce the economic looses. This is a retrospective study in a dairy farm near Tehran with 1500 milking cows in one year period. (March2006 - March2007). Along this time every cows was entered to hospital of dairy farm scored by cookʹs lameness scoring method, over 3 score means clinical lameness. 828 cows showed clinical lameness. Date of incidence, lactation period, type of injuries which created lameness was recorded during that period. Results were processed by chi-square statistical test. In seasonal base groups inter digital Flegmon in Spring(%21.5), digital dermatitis in winter(%50.4) and laminitis in summer (%36.2) has the most significant currency.( P < 0.0001) No correlation was seen between the season and other diseases. But in lactation period variations inter digital Flegmon(8.15),3rd Phalanx bone fracture(1.53), Digital dermatitis (22.31) has the most significant currency.
