Cosmetic cheiloplasty in a mixed -breed dog

Cheiloplasty is generally performed to alter the shape of the lip in abnormal lips. A 6-year old female mixed-breed dog, with previous history of surgical excision of epulides in maxilla was subjected for cheiloplasty due to upper lip malformation after the surgery. After preparation of the surgical site and under general anesthesia, the maxillary ginigiva right under the upper lip was incised and the incision was continued in mucosa to both right and left side toward buccal mucosa and skin to the lateral commisure. Thus two mucocutaneus flaps were created from the upper lip. Extra tissues were excised and direct apposition of the tension free flaps, in their right place was performed by 3-0 polydioxanone in two layers, starting from the midline. Postoperative care including antibiotic (Cefazolin 20 mg/kg), soft food for three days and close evaluation of the surgical wound for two weeks were performed. After resolving of inflammation and suture removal the lip was in its normal shape and the patient was eating and drinking normally without any complication.
