Survey of Eric PCR fingerprinting method effect on differentiation of isolated salmonella typhimurium from poultry

The presence of Salmonella was detected in 100 samples of poultry carcasses from poultry farms. A total of 10 Salmonella isolates were found in chicken samples, by conventional culturing and confirmed by Eric PCR and serology method. 4 isolates of Salmonella typhimurium were subjected to DNA fingerprinting by Eric PCR (enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR). Eric PCR amplification data revealed a highly genetic homogeneity among three isolates and different from another isolates, which isolates originated from different location showed a different DNA band pattern. Eric PCR produced simple patterns, including two patterns shared by 4 isolates from one serotype. It was observed that Eric PCR had high discriminatory power and was a simple and rapid technique for use in epidemiological studies of isolates belonging to Salmonella.
