Study of Babesia protozoa species diversity in sheep of Miandoabcity

Ovine babesiosis causes serious illness in spring and summer Also, in the most provinces of Iran, infection in sheep observe and causes a dramatic loss in sheep breeding industry .Cause of this illness in the sheep are Babesia ovis and Babesia motasi that are transferred by ticks and cause infection. In this study that has been done on 50 infected sheep to Babesiosis in Miandoab city and suburb. After preparation of blood smears and staining with Gimsa stain, they were studied by foto microscope. From 50 infected sheep with Babesia, 36 cases (72%) and 10 cases (20%) and (8%) were infected to Babesia ovis and Babesia motasi and mixed infection, respectively. Based on the results of this study most of the sheep in the Miandoab were infected with Babesia ovis and with lower prevalence and after that mix infection to Babesia ovis and Babesia motasi was observed and the minimum prevalence of Babesia infection was with Babesia motasi.
