Application of Fiber Reinforced Composite (FRC) for forced eruption: A case report

Introdution: Teeth with trauma or defects in the cervical third of the root, which need crown, pose a complex dental treatment. In these cases, forced eruption allows crown margins to be placed on sound tooth structure. Two methods are suggested for forced eruption: One with and the other without using orthodontic brackets, which both have limitations. The purpose of this article was introducing a new designed appliance for forced eruption without brackets by using FRC. Case report: The case was a 25 years old woman with upper right central crown fracture who referred to dental school for forced eruption. After endodontic therapy and cementation of a metal hook in the root, an appliance was designed with orthodontic wire and Fiber Reinforced Composite for forced eruption. The appliance was attached to adjacent teeth and a composite veneer was produced with composite and attached to this fiber for esthetic reasons during treatment course. By elastic forces from this appliance to root hook, forced eruption was accomplished in 29 days successfully and treatment finished after periodontal and prosthetic treatments after 14 weeks healing period. This designed appliance which is simple and successful provides acceptable esthetics during treatment and avoids orthodontic brackets.
