Formulation of the Accumulative Index of Social Health in Iran

The present research aims at achieving an indigenous definition for«Social Health» and formulating an acceptable index for it, First of all, it was necessary to determine the macro elements of the definition of social health and their importance to the other components, and then with respect to a proper index, an accumulative index for Irans social health had to be formulated so that we could assess the existing status, make domestic and international comparisons, determine trends of social health, determine the overlapping points to promote social health, and assess interferences using social health standards. In order to achieve an indigenous definition, Dephi approach was used in 5 rounds wherein 31 social health and science experts were asked to comment. Finally, 18 characteristics we defined for a healthy society. The three first and prominent characteristics of a healthy society is: 1) Nobody is under poverty line, 2) there is no violence in the society 3) population growth rate is controlled. The two first above-mentioned definitions exist in other societies; however, the third definition has made our definition specific and indigenous. The accumulative index of social health is achieved via converting the aforesaid characteristics to Z score and then the average is calculated based on the earlier-mentioned definition.
