The Evaluation of National and Religious Identities of Youth Wres tlers and Footballers in Tehran

The purpose of this research was evaluating the national and religious identities of youth athletes in Tehran, so we elected 250 footballers (group sport) and 160 wrestlers (individual sport) from 17 to 21 years old youth athletes of Tehran by random sampling and then terminated the altered questionnaires and finally analyzing 237 questionnaires for footballers and 129 questionnaires for wrestlers. Method of research was descriptive (causal) and we use researcher made identity questionnaire for collecting the data, which have 102 questions in two national and religious dimensions and from two theoretical and practical parameters. The data were analyzed by one sample t-taste and independent t-taste and results of research shown that the status of theoretical (2.97±0.65) and practical (2.73±0.49) constancies of religious identity in youth wrestlers were low and theoretical (1.86±0.40) and practical (1.66±0.67) constancies of national identity were weak (a<0.01). Likewise, the average of theoretical (2.92±0.48) and practical (2.66±0.52) constancies of religious identity in youth footballers were low and theoretical (1.85±0.42) and practical (1.42±0.57) constancies of national identity were weak (a<0.01). In comparison of two groups, other than practical constancy in national identity (P= 0.04), in other constancies no significant differences were observed. Because of wrestling and football (soccer) are effective and most popular in my country, so officials must consider to identity and personality role of these sports in formation of national and religious identity of youths.
