Development of Diagnostic Expert System for Dyeing of Cotton

Diagnosing in dyeing is a complex and time-consuming task and doing it depends on knowledge and experience of dyer (human expert). Such persons are scarce and expensive. The goal of this research is development of a knowledge-based expert system in the knowledge domain of troubleshooting problems in the dyeing of cotton fabrics. Knowledge of this system is collected from various sources such as reference books, papers and interview with experts. After creating knowledge base and verifying inference engine, intelligent software is developed as an expert system. Shell and user interface of this system is designed by Visual Basic language and knowledge base is written by Microsoft Access. This expert system calls database using SQL database language. In this system, defects are solved by dialogues that take place between user and expert system. The system can also explain its reference. Knowledge representation in this system is based on rules and makes the system more comprehensive and leading to simple understanding of system and easy to correct or easy to develop knowledge.
