Turkish Islamists in Power and Their Relationship with Iran (from 2000 to 2007)

Turkey in recent decades has experienced important political developments. Islamists takeover has made important changes in Turkish internal, regional, and international policies. Regarding Turkish geopolitical situation and antecedent of its relationship with Iran, this article seeks to study the impact of Islamists takeover on Turkish-Iranian relationship. Taking power of Justice and Development Party that now holds the control of State and Parliament, has strengthened the orient-based approach in Turkish foreign policy and consequently enhanced the stability in Turkish-Iranian relationship in political, economic and security fields. In this article after defining the Islamism and the process of evolution of Justice and Development Party, we describe the causes of its re-victory in 2007 parliamentary election, and then analyze the impacts of this re-victory in economic, political, and security relationships of Iran and Turkey.
