    A gram-positive bacterium isolated from gasoline - soil in Isfahan which can grow on dibenzothiophene (DBT) as sole source of sulfur. This strain that was identified a strain of the genus Rhodococcus by biochemical tests, could efficiently desulfurize DBT, a model organosulfur compound that exists in crude oil. The desulfurization product ofDBT was identified as 2-hydroxybiphenyl (2-HBP) by Gibbs reagent. The OBT content of basal salt medium (BSM) supplemented with glucose and DBT as sole carbon and sulfur sources respectively, was reduced by 100% after 100 h incubation with this strain at 30°C.

    A gram-positive bacterium isolated from gasoline - soil in Isfahan which can grow on dibenzothiophene (DBT) as sole source of sulfur.
