Developing an Environmental scanning based model for future studies in defense research organization

A model has been proposed by elaborating Daft-Weick model to describe the organizational environmental scanning in a more detailed way. The model is suitable for defense organization. To this end, a new dimension has been added to Daft-Weick model and A resulting modes of scanning has been explained. In each mode, information need, information use, information recourse scanning functions, techniques and managerial traits has been discussed. To determine the position of organization in the model, questionnaires have been designed to transform qualitative expert judgments to quantitative values. Organizational position will be determined by this way and means to scanning will be proposed. The model has been implemented in a defense organization and the results have been discussed.
