The Approaches of Thematic Coherence of the Ayas and Suras of the Qurʹan

Most of the interpreters have analyzed the issue of thematic consistency of the Qurʹan with such tools as the idea of order, proportion, purpose of the sura, and the keys to correlation and unity of the suras. Some of them, such as Sayyid Qutb, and Saʹid Hawwi, have placed the above issue in the center of their interpretation theory and defended it. In this article, while introducing the above approaches and critically reviewing them, the writer tries to indicate to what extent has each one of them been able to prove the thematic coherence of the Qurʹan. Although some of the thematic coherence theories suffer from a kind of ambiguity, and non-inclusiveness and are in need of more precise criticism, firstly the demands of the present time to encounter the misconceptions of the orientalists indicates the importance of the above approach, and secondly, the theories of thematic coherence are not contradictory with each other despite being of different origins, and can be used as an approach for better understanding the Qurʹan.
