چكيده لاتين :
Aluminum matrix composites reinforced with SiC and graphite particles are a unique class of advanced engineered materials which have been developed to use in tribological applications. At the present study a new method, namely in-situ powder metallurgy (IPM), was used to produce Al/SiC/Gr hybrid composites. In this method, the stir casting and powder metallurgy techniques have been combined in an integrated net shape process. Therefore, 40 vol.% of SiC powders with the average particle size of 19, 76 and 115pm, together with 13 vol.% un-coated graphite particles were introduced to the molten alloy. The resultant mixtures were stirred in a specified time-temperature regime resulted in mixtures of graphite, SiC and aluminum particles. Different batches of the powder mixtures were cold pressed and sintered to produce Al/SiC/Gr hybrid composites. The morphology of the produced hybrid composites were investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The applicability of in-situ powder metallurgy method for processing of hybrid composites was shown and effect of the SiC size on the compaction behavior of the hybrid powder mixtures was also investigated. Results show that the particle size of the produced aluminum powders is decreased and the compaction behavior of the powder mixtures is improved using the coarser SiC particles.
