Aesthetic and Politics The reflection of politics in the realistic approach to art

From its beginning in the 18th century, aesthetic viewed various branches of art from the perspective of essential enjoyment or pleasure. However, from the 19th century, the philosophical and social alternatives in the art which were reflected in Realism, added a social dimension to aesthetic. This dimension was highly reflective of the social and historical situations. This article seeks to illuminate the argument that aesthetic can be reflective of political and social situations. In other words, aesthetic with an element of critical approach can illustrate the political features of art very well. To do this, the article first explores what is art and then discusses about the contexts and the way the social aesthetic was emerged in the Marxist framework in order to substantiate its main argument about the relationship between art and politics. The article will refer to many realist thinkers of the 19th century to reinforce its argument. The research method is descriptive-analytical with a critical approach.
