Societal Threat and New Approach in Threatology

Although threat has always been argued for as the main problem in security studies, the dominant approach in this long period has been one of hardware and based on the definition of threat as a military and risk factor compared with the interests of the players. In addition, the ever-changing global circumstances and complexity of economic communities result in a new conception of threat. The author tries to elaborate on this novel conception through designing a pattern for a spatial analysis of threat. Therefore, the author has evaluated as insufficient to use common threats recognition and categorization pattern based on distinguishing between different aspects of threat. He introduces a new approach which analyzes the concept of threat sociologically. "Societal Threat" is the pivotal concept in this approach which has a different meaning from "the social aspect of threat In the first step, threat recognition based on "aspects" is introduced and analyzed. Following that, the alternative approach, which has a social nature, is offered. The authorʹs analytical statements have applied value in enhancing threat management patterns.
