Mt Bisetun is located in the west of Iran at a distance of 30 kilometers from east of kermanshah at 36° 8 N latitude and 46 ° 35 E longitude. Mt Bisetun is part of the Parow mountain, which forms the high Zagros Range in this area. Bisetun is famous for its high escarpment which is 1300 meter high. The structure of Mt Bisetun is composed of jurrasic and cretaceous limestone. It was first formed as an anticline at around the late cretaceous period, but its present structure has been formed by thrust. At first glance, the Bisetun escarpment seems to be a front thrust escarpment, as Mt Bisetun and the Parow Mountain have been displaced along a major fault on the Kermanshah plain in a south westerly direction. However, the high wall of Bisetun is due to its imbricate structure. At least five minor faults have cut across the Bisetun limestone structure, thereby dividing it into six rocky layers. Each layer has run over its lower layer in a south-westerly direction, which have resulted in a duplex structure, or in other words, a stacked imbricate anticline.
