Reza Shah and Political Elites

Reza Khan (Shah) was crowned by supports of elites and army officials. He strengthened and stablized his power through establishing three main reliable pillars such as the new army, governmental bureaucracy, and royal supporters. Some of the Reza Shahʹs activities and decisions on the direction of centralization of political power consist of: to integrate different ethnic groups in order to achieve national unity and integration, to limit the clergyʹs authority, and to reform the conditions of Iranʹs women population. On the other hand, he abandoned the Constitutional monarchy and the rule of law and suppressed many political parties and his opponents. He also gathered a huge private property and wealth, and finally ruled the country by absolute power and elimination of political elites. The author applys a structuralist approach in this article in order to examine the nature of Reza Shahʹs regime and its relations with political elites.
