The First Generation of Iranian Intellectuals and the Political Modernity

The article examines the process of political modernity in Iran and the way which contemporary Iranian intellectuals deal with and comprehend it. The author sets forth this hypothesis that, while western societies followed different experiences in the process of their political modernity, Iranian intellectuals simultaneously, merely accepted and adapted those experiences. So, they could not form a coherent discourse on the idea and process of political modernity. They proposed different and somehow contradictoty definitions of political modernity, and as a result, led people and themselves into misunderstanding about it. Therefore, they were not able to play a decisive role in theire behalf.
