    To improve in vitro tissue culture of rapeseed, a factorial experiment, based on completely random design with 4 replications, was carried out at the Agricultural Research Station of Islamic Azad University, Tabriz branch, during the growing season of 2007. In this experiment the effects of various concentrations of 2,4-D(l and 2 mg/1) and kinetine (0,0.5,1 and 2 mg/1) on callus induction and vitrification of hypocotyl and cotyledon from explants of two cultivars (Modena and Okapi) were studied. The three way interaction of variety kinetine 2,4-D indicate that there was differences between treatments for callus induction. Highest callus induction (82.33%) was obtained from the medium containing 2mg/l 2,4-D and 0.5 mg/1 kin. in Okapi. Mean comparisons revealed that frequency of callus vitrification for Modena variety was higher than Okapi variety. Hypocotyls in the medium containing lmg/1 2,4-D produced highest vitrification percentage. Highest callus weight, in both cultivars, was obtained when lmg/1 2,4-D was used. Callus weight and its diameter in culture of cotyledon were greater than hypocotyl. Medium containing lmg/1 2,4-D concentration increased callus diameter significantly.
