In order to study the effects methods of microelement application on yield and yield components of sunflower an experiment was carried out in Split Plot lay out based on randomized complete block design with three replications in Research Farm of Tabriz Islamic Azad University during growing season of 2006. Experimental treatments were three methods microelement applications (foliar, soil and spraying the seed) and five levels of microelements containing (zinc sulphate, manganese sulphate, ferric sulphate, boric acid and mixture of all four microelements). Statistical analyses showed that the effect of methods of microelements on 100 seed weight was significant at 1% and on number of seeds per head and yield per hectare was significant at 5% level of probabilities. The results of experiment indicated the application of mixture of four elements resulted in 2.34 % increase in seed yield as compared with control. Application of four elements increased number of the seeds per head and also 100 seed weight and seed yield per hectare. The highest yield obtained when the seeds were 3297 kg/ha sprayed with mixture of four microelements an increase of about 370 kg/ha as compared with control. Appication of four microelements in mixture increased seed number by 6.55% and 100 seed weight by 9.87% as compared with control. Foliar application with boric acid also increase seed number per head in comparison with control. Manganese sulphate increased leaf area index (LAI) by 6.08% as compared with control. Highest of yield was obtained when zinc sulphate and manganese sulphate were applied to soil as compared with foliar application and spraying the seeds. Foliar application with ferric sulphate produced higher yield as compared with soil application and spraying the seeds. Foliar application with boric acid increased the yield more than the other methods of applications.
