Effects of different concentration of steroidal hormones (17-Beta stradiol and progesterone) in the growth and fruiting body development in Pleurotus florida

The hormonal structure involved in reproduction of fungi is similar to sexual hormones of steroidal animals. In this study, we examined the effects of the different concentrations of steroidal hormones in the rate of growth and fruiting body formation. In this purpose, we cultured the mycelium of Pleurotus florida in PDA medium and added l7p-stradiol and 17(3-progestrone in the different concentrations (O(control), 1.5, 3.02, 6.05). In a 50 days period, we measured the diameter of colonies and fruiting body development and determined protein content by Bradford Method. The results showed that the steroidal treatments increase the rate of growth in compare with control and lead to formation of fruiting body especially in 1.5 mM stradiol. As well as, these treatments increased the protein content in Pleurotus florida. These results suggested that there are steroidal receptors in fungi.
