Amelioration of SO2 damage in bean plant (phaseolus vulgaris 1.) by CaCO3

In this study the inhibition role of CaCO3 as an alkaline mineral to decrease the damages of atmospheric SO2 gas on bean plant {Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was studied .The bean seeds were exposed to the different concentrations of SO2 gas (0.002, 0.004, 0.008, 0.016 gr/m3). Some of the seeds were treated with 3Mm concentration of CaCO3 and others treated Just with water as control plants. In control plants, some damages like chlorosis gneuosis, necrosis and wound were found in surface of limbs. The damages were not conciderable where CaCO3 had been added to the cultures in all concentrations of SO2. The findings show that SO2 increases proline and solution suger and decreases chlorophyll and protein since CaCO3 causes the decrease in proline and solution suger and the increase in chlorophyll and protein of leaves. These results show that adding of 3Mm concentration of CaCO3 can neutralizes or reduses the damages that SO2 gas can induces on bean plants.
