The beauty, color diversity and size of flowers of the Shasta daisy plant from Asteraceae family (Chrysanthemum maximum L.), caused it to be used in different ceremonies including visiting the sick. The numerous numbers of flowers and 5 stamina in each flower can be considered as an allergenic factor particularly for patients and hypersensitive individuals. The aim of this study is investigation of ultrastructure and allergenic properties of Shasta daisy plant pollens. The study of ultra-structural specifications of the Shasta daisy plant pollens, using the electron microscope (S.E.M.) showed that the pollens are spherical, Pore-furrowed (Pro-Colpat) with size of 20 Mm, having sprue exin surface with a pollination of enthemophil type. The SDS-PAGE of pollens extract showed presence of some protein bands area between 23, 40 and 66 KD. The intradermal injection of matured pollens extracts with a concentration of at least 75 mg/L-1, led to wheel and flare formation with a maximum diameter of 2.75 cm plus skin pruritus. The sensitization of guinea Pigs carried out by performance of intra peritoneal injections in 4 groups with 2 to 8 times injection during a month showed the highest allergic reations in group 2 with 3 injections and 10% concentraton of pollen extract. The changes in eosinophils from 0-2% in control animals reached at most 10% in treated samples after 3 times injections. The total IgE changed from 10 KU/L in control animals to 18/5 KU/L in samples treated with pollen extracts. The results showed that the Shastadaisy plant is a powerful allergen and the use of this ornamental flower should be put under limitations in hospitals, kindergartens, and crowded centers.
