INVESTIGATION ON THE POSSIBILITY OF IRANʹS PROMOTION TO THE TOP COUNTRIES IN GLOBAL SCIENCE CONTRIBUTION

In this paper the capacity of Iran for promoting to the top ten leading countries in global science contribution was studied. Five factors including human resources, universities and research institutes, scientific societies, scientific journals and scientific conferences were investigated. Supposing half of the staff members of the Iranian universities could publish one paper per year in ISI cited Journals, the country would achieve a position in the list of top ten countries in science contribution. It should be noted that some 10-15% of the academic staff in different universities have had a record of publishing more than 2 scientific papers per year. Thus, by keeping the current publishing rate of the scientific papers in ISI cited Journals, the country is predicted to be among the ten top countries in 2010.
