An Introduction to Portal Technology and Its Applications

The development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in different social and economical aspects of society introduces new applications in an unprecedented way embracing a range of enormous services. The important point is to, familiarize the users with these services in official, educational and research areas. One of new manifestations of ICT is Portal which is a gate facilitating usersʹ entrance into the world of information. The Internet portals have made content management and retrieval easily through the integration of web-based services within a unified framework and organization. Portals facilitator role in the accomplishment of official, commercial, educational, research activities and other multi-functional capabilities has approved them as useful electronic offices. Enterprise Information Portals provide new opportunities for organizations depending on their economic and executive capacities along side other services they usually offer. This article is a literature survey of this technology and its applications.
