Research Chairs

Developing and even semi-developed countries are facing two major problems of brain drain and lack of research infrastructures especially in advanced and sophisticated scientific fields. These two problems are, of course, closely related to each other; it would be impossible to conduct high quality research project without resourceful, creative researchers and, on the other hand, researchers could not be satisfied where research is not institutionalized and there is little chance to advance science any further. Consequently, they prefer to emigrate to find better jobs and research opportunities elsewhere. Creating Research Chairs is one way to solve these problems to promote science and prevent researchersʹ emigration. Research chairs have been established in various countries to meet certain essential objectives which cannot be attained without conducting research and producing knowledge at international level. This article defines research chairs along with several examples of such chairs in different countries to be modeled here.
