Scientific Cooperation among Iranian and Foreign Universities

The article mainly deals with the current status of scientific cooperation among Iranian and foreign universities based on signed memorandums of understanding. It identifies the geographical areas as well as the universities with which the largest and the smallest amount of scientific relations take place. Besides, based on these signed documents, this paper pinpoint the areas of cooperation classifying them into categories namely: basic sciences, technical and engineering sciences, humanities, medicine, applied sciences and languages. Finally, the article takes on the hindering obstacles, on the way of cooperation among universities from the viewpoints of the academics. The findings point to that academicsʹ lack of awareness about scientific opportunities and the possible grounds for mutual scientific cooperation as the major hindrance. Some guidelines have been suggested to alleviate the situation.
