Book publication as a socio-economic & cultural development indices has been facing fluctuations during various periods. These changes have been concurrent with social, political & economical developments in Iran. The most important available secondary data resource in Iran "KARNAM-E-NASHR", (Publication Report) yearly published by Ministry Of Culture and Islamic Guidance provided our main resource to analyze the book publication trends over the 24 years since 1979 till 2003. The main findings of the study are as follows: Book publication during the whole period has had a steady growth with an average rate of 22%. In years (1979-1982) it has experienced an outstanding increase in growth rate. The average growth rate in this period was 52%. There was a tremendous decline in book publication during eight years imposed war (1980 - 1988) and the growth rate came down to 5% . After war, we can see a noticeable improvement but not reaching to the start point yet. Growth rates during this period is 12%.
