Political movements of the holy Imams (pbut)

Imamat is the basis of legitimacy of all the actions and decisions of those following the path of Shariʹa. The Imams were the symbols of guidance and basis of movement in all areas and in all historical periods. Imamat has various manifestations, one of which is politics. The Imams assumed political roles in each period, depending on the conditions of the society. Politics, in the eyes of the Imams, involved the guidance of the human caravan toward truth and prosperity and dignity. Their political aspiration was to maintain the atmosphere of faith and to remove oppression and corruption. To achieve this aim, they chose certain methods. The purpose of this paper is to describe these methods. The Imams referred to their method as a duty. Some of these duties were as follows: they were inflexible in the administrationof justice; they kept alive the Ashoora movement as the manifestation of the political thought of Shiʹism; they were candid and truthful in their statements and political stances, they fought against any attempt to disunite the Muslim Ummah and they made no compromise with oppressors.
