Ego Strength, Pain intensity and Pain Self-Efficacy in Multiple Sclerosis patients: The Investigation of Mediator Variables

Abstract The aim of present research was to investigate the role of mediator mechanisms in explanation of Ego Strength, Pain intensity and Pain Self-EfFicacy in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients in Isfahan city. In this study target society included all Multiple Sclerosis patient referred to MS association in Isfahan city in 2008. A sample of 237 individuals of MS patient were selected by convenience sampling method. For collecting data, questionnaires of Ego Strength, Pain Self-Efficacy and Multidimensional pain inventory were applied. Data were analyzed by using T and Z test for significant, Pierson correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Also, for investi¬gating mediator Variables, hierarchical regression analysis was used. The findings indicated that there was a significant relationship between Ego Strength, Pain intensity and Pain Self-Efficacy. Also, Self-Efficacy mediated between Ego Strength and Pain intensity. This study provides empirical testimonies to sup¬port of bio- psycho- social model and showed that psychological factors are effective in experience of pain.
