Abstract Background: Ghrelin is a 28-amino-acid peptide hormone secreted primarily by stomach cells has important role in energy balance, obesity and food intake behavior. Purpose:The present study was designed to examine the effects of 8 weeks training for 90 min on plasma ghrelin concentration. Method: Thirty Wistar male rats (8 weeks old, 270±10) were used. Rats were randomly divided into the three groups(exprimental groups sham , non training control group) after 3weeks. Experimental groups( group:90 mins) ran 5 days a week, for 8 weeks with speed of 20m/s. Subjective measure of concentration of ghrelin was assessed after 8 weeks and 72 hours after last session of training. The ghrelin concentration was measured by ELISA. Plasma glucose, insulin and estrogen were measured by colorimetric enzymatic by Rat Insulin ELISA and Rat Estradiol ELISA respectively. Possible statistically significant differences between groups after intervention was determinded by one way ANOVA , and LSD test was used for a post hoc analysis. Results: Results showed that resting levels of ghrelin had no significant difference in training group compare with control group(P<0/6). Similarly, there was no observed change in insulin (p<0/7) and glucose (P<0/06)concentrations compared with the control group. However there was a significant difference in estrogen when compared with the control group(p<0/05). Conclusion: In conclusion, this study demonstrates that 8 weeks aerobic training for 90 min has no effect on plasma ghrelin concentration. It is possible that rats fed status may have influenced possible exercise-induced effect.
